BREAK THROUGH 2012.

MY BREAKTHROUGH IN 2012

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD.

1. THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD; I SHALL NOT WANT.

2. HE MAKES ME TO LIE DOWN IN GREEN PASTURES.

HE LEADS ME BESIDE THE STILL WATERS.

3. HE RESTORES MY SOUL.

HE LEADS ME IN THE PATHS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

FOR HIS NAME’ SAKE.

4. YEA THOUGH I WALK IN THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW,

OF DEATH, I WILL FEAR NO EVIL;

FOR YOU ARE WITH ME.

YOUR ROD AND STAFF THEY COMFORT ME.

5. YOU PREPARE A TABLE BEFORE ME IN THE PRESENCE OF MY ENEMIES.

YOU ANOINT MY HEAD WITH OIL.

MY CUP RUNS OVER.

6. SURELY GOODNESS AND MERCY SHALL FOLLOW ME,

ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE,

AND I WILL DWELL IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD FOREVER.

AMEN.

A BRIEF LOOK AT PSALM 23. A PSALM OF DAVID.
AS we enter 2012, we need to have a different view of how to view God. David is a good example of somebody who as a shepherd understood that the way he had concern over the sheep, was the same way God cared for him or even more. Studies show that David wrote some of the Psalms when He was on his own and no-one cared, for him. Some scholars assume that from Psalm 27:10 Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will take care of me. King James 2000 Bible (©2003) When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. When Samuel went to anoint a king in Jesse’s home David was the only one absent. 1 Samuel 16:11. 1 Samuel 16:11
New King James Version (NKJV)
11 And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.”
And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down[a] till he comes here.” Why was he, being the youngest son, alone tending the sheep in dangerous pastures when Jesse had other grown up sons.? We give glory to God because it’s when we feel alone and rejected that He turns up to shepherd us then we can cry out with confidence and say THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD, I SHALL NOT WANT. That led him to fully turn and trust in God, for he had no-one. There are certain important lessons we can learn from David. We shall look at verse by verse.

1. THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD; I SHALL NOT WANT.
What a statement! What brings somebody to a point where they cry out...THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD? FIRST, the NAME, LORD, has a very important meaning for you and me. Let’s look at the word LORD. - IN HEBREW the word LORD is ‘adon which means MASTER and OWNER. IN GREEK the word the word is kurios, meaning OWNER, CONTROLLER, OR ABSOLUTE DOMINION, and SUPREME AUTHORITY.  The word SHEPHERD, in GREEK is poimen, meaning, ONE WHO TENDS, GUIDES, LEADS, CHERISHES, FEEDS AND PROTECTS A FLOCK. Now, if you bear in mind what these words mean, you understand that David was saying, THE LORD, MASTER, LANDLORD,OWNER, ONE WHO IS IN CHARGE OF EVERYTHING, IS MY  KEEPER, GUIDER, PROTECTOR, AND FEEDER!. What a statement. That is why David goes on to say l will not want, lack, need, search for anything. If your Landlord is the Owner of the universe, what then can you lack?David faced some circumstances in his life that no human being could solve. Remember he was always on his own herding sheep, when the lion and the bear attacked the sheep. The LORD, fought for him. 1 Samuel 17:34-37.
King James Version (KJV)37David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee. David shows great confidence in GOD. David had to fully rely on God when King Saul was chasing him. 1 Samuel 19 :1-2,Saul Persecutes David;
1 Now Saul spoke to Jonathan his son and to all his servants, that they should kill David; but Jonathan, Saul’s son, delighted greatly in David. 2 So Jonathan told David, saying, “My father Saul seeks to kill you. Therefore please be on your guard until morning, and stay in a secret place and hide. Imagine your father in law who happens to be the most powerful man in the country is after your life. Its only God who can protect you in that situation. Later his own son was after his life, he had to run away and hide. 2 Samuel 15:13-14New King James Version (NKJV)13 Now a messenger came to David, saying, “The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom.”
14 So David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Arise, and let us flee, or we shall not escape from Absalom. Make haste to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly and bring disaster upon us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword.” David,s life was full of danger and uncertainty. At one occasion he had to escape with his life from King Achish by pretending to be a madman.1 Samuel 21:12-13 (NKJV)12 Now David took these words to heart, and was very much afraid of Achish the king of Gath. 13 So he changed his behaviour before them, pretended madness in their hands, scratched on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva fall down on his beard. Now I do believe that the problems David faced led him to adopt a different view of God. To him God became a personal God, with a personal relationship found between a Shepherd and his sheep.God's protection led him to realise that God was concerned about his welfare, and it was between God and him. Personal relation(my shepherd). No matter who was there or not or who wanted to kill him, God was his keeper and protector.
 HE WAS FULLY PERSUADED THAT THE LORD IS HIS KEEPER AND THEREFORE CAN NOT LACK FOR ANYTHING. THERE IS NO WANT IN THOSE WHO TRUST IN HIM. PSALM 84
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
The LORD will give grace and glory;
No good thing will He withhold
from those who walk uprightly. ALSO PSALM 34:9-10. Psalm 34:9-10

New King James Version (NKJV9 Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints!
There is no want to those who fear Him.
10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger;
But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

David shows that He knew it was the LORD, who protected, led, guided, and provided for him. No wonder he could write such a psalm of total boldness and confidence in God...

APPLICATION.

AS WE ENTER 2012, we need to know WHO GOD is, in our lives, and what He is in our lives. We must get to a point where we can cry out with confidence whatever the circumstance, that The LORD IS MY SHEPHERD, I SHALL NOT WANT. It’s a statement of faith. We may be like David who was left to defend a flock on his own. He knew that God was with him. You may be the shepherd of your family, remember Jesus is the Lord, and David shows us that if the Lord is your shepherd, you shall not lack guidance, help, protection, food, and whatever provision you need. BEING CONFIDENT IN THE WORD. THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD. I SHALL NOT WANT. LET’S STAND IN THE INTEGRITY OF THE WORD. LETS NOT ENTERTAIN THE ENEMY’S NOS. IF THE ANSWER YOU GOT IS NOT WHAT YOU WERE EXPECTING, SEND IT BACK. DON’T ACCEPT IT. TAKE NO NONSENSE FROM THE ENEMY. MICAH 3:8 SAYS 8 But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the LORD, and with justice and might., THE Spirit that is in you is the Spirit of the Lord, The same Spirit that God used to create the universe. Job 26:13 (NKJV)13 By His Spirit He adorned the heavens;
His hand pierced the fleeing serpent. He is the same Spirit that was working signs and wonders in the life of Jesus.
14 Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. 15 And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. Now look at verse 18, 18 “ The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
[a]
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
That is the Spirit in you. He is the Spirit of POWER AND OF MIGHT. I encourage you to change things in this year, just by knowing who your shepherd is, and whose Spirit is in you, and what that Spirit can do!
, AMEN.
